THE SCOUT OUTDOOR ESSENTIALS
Attire
- One class A uniform - to be worn during travel to and from events, during flag ceremony, at campfires, and as otherwise requested by the camp director.
- Rain gear
- Hat with brim to keep the sun off
- Windbreaker or sweatshirt
- At least 2 pairs for socks
- Extra pants (short pants during summer)
- One class B shirt
- One long sleeve shirt
- At least 2 sets of underwear
- Hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes
Sleeping Gear
- Sleeping bag
- Sleeping pad
- Small travel pillow
- Duffel bag for gear
- Mess kit – plate, bowl and cup or mug, knife, fork and spoon
- Flashlight
- Personal First Aid kit
- Small towel
- Toilet paper and tissues
- Canteen or water bottle
- Compass
- Map - if available
- Pocket knife - scouts must have had earned Totin' Chip
- Notebook and pen
- Sunscreen
- Waterproof matches/fire starters - scouts must have had earned Firem'n Chip
- Rope – scouts should generally carry at least three feet of rope to each event
- Money for snacks, etc. (at least JPY2,000 recommended)
Food
- Patrol meal - what you've signed up for
- Trail food - for maintaining your energy. Bring more than you'll need in case you get stuck/lost in the woods.
- Water - enough to keep you hydrated on for the activities you are attending.
